I have been doing this for several months checking for some positive signs of a looming transfer and nothing.

Plenty on here seem a little more relax about things I wonder if they will feel the same if things do not change soon.

Who else apart from Man City are making any moves in the market of any note though really?

The market is currently just like the World Cup was... looked forward to for a long time, but ultimately, a big disappointment.

Theres still time for this window to spark into life, and im certain it will at some stage with the 25 man squad rule in place! Teams will have no alternative but to move people on.

Im pretty sure that as soon as the Milner and possibly Balotelli deals go through to Man City... is when the market will then kick into life, with Inter using the Balotelli money to buy Mascherano from Liverpool...and Villa using the Milner money on whoever..

Liverpool will then replace Mascherano with someone and so on.

I agree with you. Until the 'big' clubs start to sort things out the 'smaller' ones will have to bide their time. With the new rules the likes of Man City are going to have to get rid of several players. This will start the market rolling and, hopefully, bring some of the infalted prices down.

I know mate but realistically what positions do we need to fill?

striker wise we will not get the young hungry prolific striker we are after because the market is so impossible for a club like us to do so (forcing us to look abroad for targets who are prolific where they play but they do not have the ability in the prem which is a big step up - see chucho who bangs em in for fun in mexico). With Zig in, I cann see out attacking options improving massivley because if a ball is put in the box we have the ability to win it.

Derfense wise we are sound in both cover and first team places. Murphy has looked like a new signing since recovering from his injury problems.

Centre/Defensive/Attacking mid we are sound too. Fergie and michel for the defensive roles, bowyer, if rested and used wisley has the hunger and the engine to go box to box, fahey if played there is a great creative outlet and Gardner can pretty much do it all.

All we really NEED (as opposed to want) is more options out wide

for me im happy to leave it upto eck at the end of the day he knows more than me about how he wants is team to play and who is upto it and who isnt and needs replacing .
then if he makes a balls up of it i feel i can blame him unlike a lot of fans who want this player and that player then we sign them and they flop they are on ecks case for signing them .

but if i was eck i would say we need a couple of good squad defenders and a forward

In a dream world - I'd see N'Zogbia, Dembele, Hleb and Clyne sign tomorrow.

However, in the real world - even if we got two of those before September 1st, I'd be ecstatic, because it's a difficult climate in the transfer market at the moment.

So would I mate, N'Zogbia is a dream though I don't think we will get him and sources from newsnow are stating that it is unlikely..

Same here.

Realistically though, it seems like N'Zogbia wont be coming, but if that means we get some sort of alternative, aswell as Dembele, Clyne and someone like Hleb or something, then that would be brilliant business.

Throw in someone like Weiss on loan or something, and we'd be comfortable for the season im sure.

I still think we need to get cover on the right hand side of midfield and certainly another striker.

We might be able to get by on that. I just hope that Carson realises that whilst we may not want European football yet we do still need to improve certain areas of the team.

Pooley would you say we are stronger than atleast 5 other teams we will be battling with to avoid relegation?

I can only name the following:

Blackpool, wigan and perhaps wolves.

You had better let AM know that and help him get as chilled as you are about the existing squad for next season **thumbup
He's in the Evening Mail saying that we need to make sure to get more players in, because in effect we have only replaced Hart and Benitez with Foster and Zigic.

http://www.birminghammail.net/birmingham-s...97319-26967927/

AM said a concerted effort was needed to sign several more players to improve his squad.

So far Ben Foster, Nikola Zigic and Enric Valles have been added to the ranks.

But McLeish pointed out that the two main additions – Foster and Zigic – were effectively replacements for those who left St Andrew’s at the end of last season.

“We are still working on one or two things, there are some options out there we are looking at but, at the moment, there’s been no breakthroughs,” McLeish told the Birmingham Mail. “With the season looming, we’ve really got to push on and add more quality. If you analyse what’s happened, then all we’ve done is replace two positions that were vacated at the end of the season.

“As Joe Hart was going back to Manchester City, a goalkeeper was an absolute necessity. It’s such an important position, we needed to do that one and we’re delighted that we got someone of the calibre of Ben Foster.

“We brought in Nikola Zigic and, again, effectively we spent money there that we would have spent on Christian Benitez, had we decided to take up the loan option.

“So we haven’t really enhanced the squad yet, we’ve replaced players who have left.........."

no you are not alone ;) thats why i said we need 2 good squad defenders ideally 1 utility defender a bit like (ridge) and 1 full back ie clyne.
people have taken a swipe at mancienne but what they seem to forget is that the lad is still very young ok he is not the vidic that many unrealistic supporters want us to sign but with the security of a permanent club and help of a top class defensive coach in eck .
add to that the thing that he can play any defensive position and midfield would make him a good signing .
im not saying i hope we sign him but i do think if the chance having of a player like him came up i would snap them up

“We brought in Nikola Zigic and, again, effectively we spent money there that we would have spent on Christian Benitez, had we decided to take up the loan option.

“So we haven’t really enhanced the squad yet, we’ve replaced players who have left.........."

somebody said yesterday wait for the mail to claim the eck interview on sky as their report and here it is :LMAO:

You can always rely on Tatts for 'exclusives'

Pooley would you say we are stronger than atleast 5 other teams we will be battling with to avoid relegation?

I can only name the following:

Blackpool, wigan and perhaps wolves.

Blackpool
West Brom
Wolves
Wigan (especially if they lose N'Zogbia and Rodallega)
Newcastle
Stoke
Blackburn
West Ham
Bolton

I like your optimism **thumbup but we shouldn't take too much for granted before the season starts - it just leads to frustration and a lack of crowd support if the team doesn't meet that optimism.

Avoiding bottom a 3 position throughout, is still the priority this season.

Wolves have spent a bit, so we shouldn't count on them going down.
Stoke are experienced in grafting through a Premier season so should survive.
Blackburn have the vile Allardice :P who doesn't actually win things, but his cv says he always manages to survive relegation.
Newcastle should struggle, but could start season well given the home support and then who knows what could happen if players confidence gets high (as Blues' did last season).
Even Wigan have spent a few bob which is why N'Zogbia needs to go.
New manager, with a good CV, at West Ham could result in them having a much better season.

Blackpool are certs for the drop and appear to be budgetting for a single season in the Premier.
Bolton's mini end of season revival under new manager Coyle could have been just a temporary stay of execution.
Fulham could struggle initially under Hughes with him having so little time to prepare his own team for the season.
Baggies defence could be the liability.

But all in all, imo, only Blackpool are certain to be a poorer team than Blues, and even they could be dangerous early season (like Burnley last season) and in mid winter when home cabbage patch will be to their advantage.

We should, again imo, be hoping to just establish ourselves this season, and I'll be more than happy with a lower mid table finishing position.

We could probably have our team ready for the season by using the loan deals and maybe one more signing.

Ie, Weiss on loan for the wide play, and maybe another striker or winger on loan, like Macheda upfront or Obertan out wide, and then we sign either a left back or a striker.

If we pressurise the board to make 3,4,5 more signings, then they are just gonna sign trash players.

We should allow ourselves to progress as a team slowly but surely, we have replaced the losses from last season. Now we should look to bring in maybe 1 or 2 permament players who are good, and use the two loan spots as cover.

I, like most, would love to see us bring in 4 or 5 new players of absolute quality, but it is not going to happen.

I mentioned in another thread, we have signed Zigic, and some people dont seem grateful. Instead of being excited about Zigic, everyone is scouring the internet trying to sniff out our next possible transfer target.

This guy cost Valencia 20 million, and we have acquired him for less than a third of that price! If that isnt good enough business to get people excited, then some time soon, people may want to consider coming back down to Earth.

dont forget there was that 40mil in jan and 40 mil in summer quoted so some are still thinking we should have 65-odd mil left to spend

I can understand peoples fustrations, after getting Zigic and Foster so early it gave people the wrong expectations that it was going to be a very a busy window. Since then no one has come in and we are all checking the internet/papers/sky sports twice a day in hope lol
